A Message from Sean Cracraft, Interim Director of Golf Operations

Greetings Sun City,

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you for the warm welcome I have received during my time here at Sun City Hilton Head. Although I am only serving in an interim position, you all have made me feel right at home. Funny, a few years ago, my wife and I stopped by to look at this place as a possible location for our retirement; little did I know that I would be back so soon.

One of the things I have most enjoyed is learning a bit about the history of the golf operations here and, more importantly, being able to create some discussions about the long-term future of golf here. It seems that the community is divided as to whether the golf courses are an amenity to the project (think pickleball, tennis and pools) or should be looked at as a business unit, therefore with a bit of a different financial ramification. The Board is spending a lot of time and energy strategizing on the future of golf here, which I think is an appropriate exercise for the overall health of the project. I have really enjoyed listening in on these conversations and providing a little bit of input where appropriate based on my experience in the industry.

I have been amazed at the progress on the condition of all three courses during my time here. Director of Golf Maintenance Operations Rick Barnes and his team are working very hard and the progress is obvious. Although Mother Nature has thrown several curveballs at us via the heat, storms and lightning strikes, the staff has pushed forward and the efforts are really paying off. We are now playing all 18 greens at Hidden Cypress Golf Course. Argent Lakes Golf Course and Okatie Creek Golf Course are also in very nice condition now. I hope if you see any members of the team, you take a moment to say thanks, as they are out all day in the elements when we all get to retire into our nice air-conditioned environments.

[resident] had a hole-in-one on August 20 at Argent Lakes Golf Course hole 5 for 120 yards. He used a pitching wedge. The event was witnessed by [resident] and [resident].

[resident] had a hole-in-one on August 26 at Okatie Creek Golf Course hole 17 for 130 yards. He used an 8 hybrid. The event was witnessed by [resident], [resident] and [resident].

[resident] had a hole-in-one on August 29 at Okatie Creek Golf Course hole 12 for 152 yards. He used a 7 iron. The event was witnessed by [resident].

[resident] had a hole-in-one on August 31 at Okatie Creek Golf Course hole 12 for 112 yards. She used a 5 iron. The event was witnessed by [resident] and [resident] and [resident].

Golf Advisory Committee Meeting

The next Golf Advisory Committee (GAC) meeting will be on Tuesday, September 15 at 3 p.m. at Palmetto Commons, Tupelo Room. All residents are welcome to attend.

Golf Exhibition Featuring Maurice Allen

Enjoy a free golf exhibition hosted by Golf Operations as part of Life Under the Sun. Bring your lawn chairs and be prepared to hear great stories, laugh out loud and learn new swing tips. Shade is limited. No early setup is permitted. The exhibition will be Monday, October 5 at 4 p.m. on the Okatie Creek Golf Course Driving Range.
