BOD Update: September 2 Working Session Recap

The Board of Directors held a Working Session on September 2. The following agenda items were discussed:

Road Repaving The entrance to the North Gate off US Highway 278 will be repaved starting Wednesday, September 9, weather depending. The Board previously informed the community that APAC is the selected vendor, and the cost is $297,744.50 which is funded through the reserve fund.

Here is the order of the tasks to be completed:

• Traffic control will be provided to assist residents with access around the work zone.
• Curb repairs will be performed during the daytime before asphalt is laid.
• All asphalt work will be done at night.
• Deep patches will be done to repair/reconstruct the failing areas.
• The current road surface will be milled to 1 ½ inch. Note: residents will be driving over the milled surface until the project is completed.
• New striping of lanes, arrows and stop lines will be done.
• Loops for US Highway 278 signals and entry/exit gates will be replaced. Until this is complete, the stop lights will be on an "automatic" setting (determined by SCDOT) and will not be triggered by vehicles coming from the North Side onto Hwy. 278. The exit/entry gates will be operated manually until the new loops are installed. Security and IT have been alerted to this upcoming work.
• Reminder: all golf carts and bicyclists need to use the Millenium Bridge to cross Hwy. 278 for their own safety.

Residents are advised to use caution at this entrance.

Cameras on the Millenium Bridge The cameras are now activated on the Millenium Bridge. Reminder to residents that there is no passing of bikes, golf carts or cars on the bridge. If a passing incident is reported to the Chief of Securitas, the video footage will be reviewed and a citation issued. To date, Securitas has issued five citations after reported incidents. Please be safe!

Golf Update Interim Director of Golf Operations Sean Cracraft and Director of Golf Maintenance Operations Rick Barnes updated the Board on current course conditions. All three golf courses are open and available for resident play. Okatie Creek Golf Course is limited to 80 rounds/day (18 hole equivalents) as recommended by the USGA and Troon to promote turf growth.

The Golf Cart Use Policy was discussed and adjustments will be made in the Community Rules. The difference between "street use" and "golf course use" will be delineated for clarity. The Board also discussed issuing special "decals" for golf carts that can be used on Sun City courses. More information to follow.

Broughton Drive Gate Access The Broughton Drive Gate, a golf cart-only gate, will no longer be accessible for resident use and will be permanently closed. Sun City Hilton Head does not have an easement to access the adjoining property. The property owners have now posted "no trespassing" signs so legally, Sun City residents cannot use the gate to cut through to Food Lion. Please access other exit points from Sun City.

Nature Trail Phones There are currently three phones located along the Nature Trail – at stations 4, 8 and 12. Due to aging copper lines and connectivity issues, the IT Department is looking into other options and will be removing the current phones. Residents are advised to carry their cell phones and/or walk with partners on the trail. Reminder that the Nature Trail access closes at sundown for resident safety.

Golf Advisory Committee The Board and Golf staff reviewed and discussed recommendations from the Golf Advisory Committee, sent on August 22.

Appeals The Board reviewed appeals on modification requests and citations.

Chat with the Board The next Chat with the Board is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16 at 9:30 a.m. in Pinckney Hall.

Third Quarter Board Meeting The next Quarterly Board Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23 at 2 p.m. in Pinckney Hall. An agenda will be published shortly. All residents are encouraged to attend to hear what's happening in Sun City.
