Dear Residents,
In recent weeks, resident concerns have been raised, including a thoughtful and detailed letter sent directly to the Association, Pulte Group and Troon's corporate leadership, regarding the current state of our golf courses. We want every homeowner to have the same complete picture, so we are addressing this openly with the full community.
The Sun City Hilton Head Board of Directors and Troon Golf are sending this joint communication because the condition of our golf courses and the quality of the golf experience matter deeply to both organizations. We understand the concerns that have been raised, and we want the community to know that we are working together to address these issues and improve the experience of everyone who enjoys our courses.
We want to acknowledge the frustration and disappointment residents have felt over the decline in course conditions. We understand how important these amenities are to your lifestyle, your property values and the reputation of this community, and we want you to know these concerns have been heard at the highest levels of both organizations. We appreciate the time and care residents have put into raising them. We hear you, and we are not going to spend this letter debating the past. What matters now is what we do next.
Where We Stand and What We're Doing
Conditions at Hidden Cypress and Okatie Creek Golf Courses have not met the standard our community deserves. We own that. Troon's Regional Director of Agronomy has committed to being on-site every two weeks specifically to manage recovery at both courses. Troon has also dispatched additional resources (Dave Nicholls, Executive Vice President, Science & Agronomy and Ross Mariano, Taskforce Superintendent) to further support and address the concerns that have been raised. They arrived on July 13, and Ross will remain on property through Friday, July 31.
The irrigation project at Hidden Cypress Golf Course is nearly complete and water interruptions will cease so the course can return to complete playability. Okatie Creek Golf Course greens are scheduled to reopen on Monday, July 27. The USGA agronomist inspected the course on July 10, and was pleased with the recovery thus far.
The full Hidden Cypress Golf Course renovation begins January 2027, and a detailed interim plan covering now through the end of 2026 will be shared with the community by the end of July. Argent Lakes Golf Course continues to improve daily and full transition from the overseeded rye grass to Bermuda grass should be complete by the end of July. Our shared goal is for all three courses to be in the best condition they have ever been.
Our Commitment Going Forward
Transparency, accountability and open communication are core values for both Troon and the Association, and we are committed to providing this to our residents. The Board and Troon are united in their efforts to improve course conditions and prevent similar issues from occurring in the future. There is a commitment for more frequent on-site oversight, clearer performance accountability and closer coordination between the Board and Troon, so any future issues are caught and addressed earlier. We are committed to being part of the solution, not just explaining the problem.
We know residents have specific questions about Board engagement, fees, staffing and the path ahead, and those questions deserve real answers. Rather than attempt to address every question in a single letter, we are committed to working through them directly with the Board and will provide updates as those conversations continue to progress.

We appreciate residents raising these concerns directly rather than letting frustration go unaddressed, and we are committed to earning back the community's confidence in the condition of these courses. We value your input and welcome your continued involvement as we work toward a solution together. Questions are always welcome through the Board or Troon on-site leadership team.
